POPULAR WEDDING FIRST DANCE SONGS
The music for your first dance is individual to you, and entirely your own choice. You may already have 'a song' that
means something to you as a couple. If not, don't worry! Just make sure that you chose a song you really like and are
familiar with - you will be hearing it a lot during the lessons!
You can dance to any song, but there are some that will make the task easier than others! Something of a medium speed is
a good starting point - generally the slower the song the slower the steps. Don't think this is the easy option as it
can get boring for both yourselves and your guests if you go for a really slushy option! At the same time, a very fast song will call for some more swift footwork!
An average length pop song is three to three and a half minutes long, which is a fine length to dance to also. If your
choice of song is longer and you don't want to dance for the full duration of it, there are a few simple solutions.
For example, you can ask your guests to join you on the dance floor at a suitable point, or we can edit the music to an appropriate length for you.
If you are finding it hard to chose just one song. Again, music can be edited to join two, three or more songs
together into a medley - great variety and a real surprise for your guests!
Ultimately, you want a song you both like and a comfortable with. We are always on hand to offer advice……so dig
out the CD collection, grab a bottle of wine and get listening..…….!
Some examples of popular song choices are:
- Can't Take My Eyes Off of You - Frankie Valli
- My First, my last, my everything - Barry White
- Love is in the air - John Paul Young
- The way you look tonight - Phil Collins
- When you say nothing at all -, Ronan Keating
- It had to be you - Frank Sinatra
- Don't want to miss a thing - Aerosmith
Also try listening to different versions of songs by other Artists as they can really differ from each other.
Now a wedding dance is not always just about the bride and groom. Many people are opening the doors to their friends and
family, children or bridesmaids and ushers too, involving them in some or all, of the dance. This is a really impressive surprise for the rest of your guests!
N.B. All of the tracks mentioned above are examples. We will gladly choreograph a routine to whatever track you choose. It
doesn't have to be one that's listed here by any means.
